That said, I recently ran into some trouble getting TA (GOG + Patch + Mayhem) to run well on a newish PC build, which lead me to this thread among some others to address issues. I have been a long-time fan of TA, periodically having casual fun dinking around with mods (most recently Total Mayhem), AIs (EX: Queller's AI Packs), etc on occasion, and have benefited from various resources provided by this site (and others) over the years. I personally suspect firewall, antivirus, win defender or admin rights being the cause of this. Unfortunately i haven't been able to help them just yet even though mine works fine, please let me know if you have any info on this issue. I have a few friends having problems with dxwnd not launching when starting games through game ranger. Some settings I applied didn't work when i first applied them, then when I uncheck those settings, somehow they begin to apply themselves even though they are currently unchecked LOL. Many problems I've had i've overcome by tinkering and i've learnt that dxwnd has a mind of its own. If you're having cursor issues than can also be fixed in the input tab If the windows task bar is overlaying your game, this can be fixed in dxwnd just play with video settings Sometimes dxwnd doesn't refresh/register settings you've changed until restart or even reapplying.

my solution to this problem was to simulate full screen by using 'run in window' mode set to x=0 y=0 w=1920 h=1080 check 'keep aspect ratio' and check 'X,Y coordinates'

If you are set at max reso and still having issues try copy my settings from youtube vid or install my dxwnd exe. Nitros, scan lines usually means wrong resolution. I use windows defender disabled, AVG antivirus enabled with totala.exe and server.exe listed as exceptions In my total annihilation escalation game i have my screen size set to my native reso 1920x1080 serve.exe is set to automatically run as admin and run in compat mode for win 7Į:\Program Files\CAVEDOG\TOTALA\TA Escalation\TotalA.exeĬ:\Users\Jimb00sa\AppData\Roaming\GameRanger\GameR anger\GameRanger.exe totala.exe is NOT set to admin otherwise I cannot host games on GR but disable display scaling on high DPI settings is checked gameranger.exe is set to automatically run as admin dxwnd.exe is set to automatically run as admin and run in compat mode for win 7 If not using multi monitor, uncheck multi-monitor config in video tab
Change resolution to your own reso (has to be maximum reso, you will get scanlines and other issues if reso isn't perfect, even then not all aspect ratios work with TA you might have to tinker around) Ill post this link with my exact version of dxwnd and all my settings included:

Unfortunately my comrades haven't been able to enjoy such perks with DxWnd and I'm determined to find out how to get all win10 players working like me. Can alt+tab without blackscreen (occasionally alt+tab causes instant crash without errors, mostly if im in the replayer) also due to multi-monitor setup alt tabbing works but totala.exe is always on top so i have to use second monitor for other windows.
